Why are Tree Savers necessary and what do they do?

U.S. Forest Service Wilderness Regulation #36CFR261.6 states that damaging any tree or vegetation is a violation resulting in a $200 fine. When used with a picket line the Tree Savers prevent the rope from cutting into and damaging the tree bark. This illustration shows how to use the Tree Saver.

Picket Line Kit Instructions

  1. Place Tree Saver as high as possible on tree and attach highline rope to Tree Saver with half hitch.
  2. Attach Knot Eliminator to rope for each horse. Loosen rope to adjust the position of the Knot Eliminator. Keep the animals at least 20 feet away from the trees.
  3. To tighten the rope, put a Knot eliminator about eight feet from the last tree. This takes the place of a Dutchman's knot.

Put the rope back through the bottom hole of the Knot Eliminator and pull. This will cock it like a spring and works like a "come-along."

Pull the rope tight and put in a half hitch.

  4. Tie the animals to the bottom loop of the Knot Eliminator. By placing the rope high on the tree the animals do not become tangled.

The Stirrup Straight eases footing in and out of stirrup.  Alleviate  ankle and knee stress.
The Knot Eliminator  and Tree-Saver products allow horses and other animals to be safely tied without tangle.
